City officials push for speed bumps around popular recreation area

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Two city commissioners are pushing hard to get some speed bumps installed around Edgewater Dr., which surrounds Lake Loretta.

It's a popular area for people in Albany to walk and run around.

Commissioner Tommie Postell says not only do people speed through the area, but its also a safety issue for pedestrians, and the geese that sometimes walk into the street.

He says speed bumps would help slow people down, and keep the area safer.

"We need to help them out with some way of slowing that traffic down, keeping them from reckless driving and all that, because they do have accidents," says City Commissioner Tommie Postell.

We also spoke to commissioner Roger Marietta who serves that area, and agrees with Postell.

Marietta says they're working with city staff to change the traffic ordinance, so the commission has the power to waive the cost of speed bumps for residents in certain cases.
