ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Dougherty County Health Department is getting help to keep families safe on the roadways.
This month, they received a grant from The Georgia Department of Public Health's Injury Prevention Program to purchase car seats.
The grants are awarded to several counties to help prevent injuries and death of children on the roadways each year. "We want to get the word out to buckle up every time, every trip. Safety is the key," said Artiszell Johnson, LPS Passenger Safety Technician, Dougherty County Health Department.
The Dougherty County Health Department issues 5 to 8 car seats a month. They also provide classes for new parents to learn how to properly use the car seats.
To receive the grants, health departments are required to apply each year. The 2015 grants will be given to 137 Georgia counties.
