Fire destroys home of Dawson County sheriff

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a fire has destroyed the home of a Georgia sheriff.

Dawson County Emergency Services Chief Lanier Swafford said the home of Dawson County Sheriff Billy Carlisle is a "total loss."

The Times reports (http://bit.ly/1yUvj2V) that no one was injured in the blaze, which was reported shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday.

Swafford the emergency call reported flames in the laundry room, which is where the fire might have started.

Authorities said emergency personnel responded within two to three minutes of the initial call, and flames could be seen coming through the roof when they arrived. Firefighters from Dawson and Forsyth counties battled the blaze.

The county is about 50 miles north of Atlanta in the foothills of the north Georgia mountains.
