The Valdosta Police Department says that a former Bay County Sheriff's deputy, David Kenneth Mudge, 24, was arrested Tuesday for child molestation that was claimed to have happened in Valdosta in October.
VPD says: On January 6, 2015, Valdosta Police Department Detectives were contacted by the Bay County Sheriff's Department (Panama City, Florida) about a possible Child Molestation that had occurred in the City of Valdosta.
Bay County Florida authorities reported a 12 year old disclosed he was molested by a known person while staying at a local motel in Valdosta on October 10, 2014. It was determined the juvenile stayed at a motel in the City of Valdosta with a group of persons from the Panama City, Florida area who had come to visit a local theme park.
Bay County authorities indicated they were already investigating a case involving the alleged offender, David Kenneth Mudge, 24 year old male, Florida resident. Mudge had been employed by the Bay County Sheriff's Department as a law enforcement officer since November 2014.
A VPD Detective and Detective Sergeant went to Panama City on January 7, 2015 to investigate the incident that occurred in Valdosta. Mudge has been arrested for charges in Bay County regarding another incident and an active arrest warrant was signed today by VPD Detectives for Aggravated Child Molestation (Felony) 1 count.
Bay County authorities have fully cooperated with our department and have been extremely helpful in this case. They continue to assist the Valdosta police Department with this investigation.
The Bay County sheriff's office said: The Bay County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Department of Children and Families on January 6, 2015, about a complaint concerning possible sexual molestation of a child.
During interviews, the victim told investigators about three separate incidents of molestation that occurred during 2014. According to the victim, two of the incidents took place in Bay County, Florida and one in Valdosta, Georgia, on October 13, 2014. The suspect was identified as David K. Mudge.
David Mudge was employed as a deputy sheriff at the Bay County Sheriff's Office from November 1, 2014 to January 6, 2015, the day of his arrest. All three incidents of molestation took place prior to Mudge working for the BCSO.
Contact was made with Mudge. After an interview with BCSO investigators, Mudge was charged with two counts of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation on a victim under the age of twelve. The Valdosta Police Department traveled to Bay County to conduct their investigation. Today a warrant was issued by the VPD for Mudge.
Mudge was immediately terminated from the BCSO and booked into the Bay County Jail, where he is being held on $100,000 bond.
