Two men are in the Colquitt County Jail tonight charged with a string of recent church burglaries.

John Stanley Griner and Michael Allen McMurphy are accused of stealing electronics and furniture from Autryville Baptist, Oakdale Baptist, Friendship Alliance, and Cavalry Baptist Churches.

"Because of the recent burglaries we've beefed up patrol around our churches on night shift,” said Lt. Shawn Bostick, with the Colquitt County Sheriff's Office. “The deputy actually discovered the church had been burglarized. Investigators responded and in the scene investigation we were able to find evidence that linked us to the suspects."

Investigators found the stolen items at the suspects' homes.

Griner and McMurphy are charged with four counts of 2nd degree burglary and vandalism to a place of worship.
