STATENVILLE, GA (WALB) - Echols County residents have an opportunity to earn their GED for free.
The free GED classes are being offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the building behind the post office in Statenville.
Wiregrass Georgia Technical College's Adult Education Teacher, Susan Borchert, is teaching the classes.
The first class was held on Tuesday, January 6th and Borchert said the turnout was great. "I would be happy if four showed up," said Borchert. "That it was a full house just made my day. And, I realize that there is a need."
Borchert said 12 people showed up for the class on Tuesday. Students who participate in the classes will receive education in a variety of subjects and can begin taking the four part GED test at any time, though the test itself does cost money.
The classes will run through the end of the Semester at Wiregrass and will pick up again in the Fall. Residents interested in taking the class can sign up at any time by simply attending one of the classes.
