VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The city of Valdosta has dedicated a day to honoring the city's law enforcement.

Valdosta's mayor presented a proclamation at the police department Thursday morning, declaring Friday, January 9th, 2015 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

The mayor will be at the annual city council retreat on Friday, January 9th, which is why the proclamation was presented Thursday.

"[We] seek to recognize the honorable career field of law enforcement," said mayor Gayle, as he read the proclamation. "Now therefore, I, John Gayle, mayor of Valdosta, proclaim January 9th, 2015 Law Enforcement Appreciation Day."

The city is also asking people to wear blue on Friday, January 9th in order to show support for law enforcement.
