Red light cameras for Winnersville?

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta's mayor and city council are preparing to discuss the possibility of installing red light cameras in the city.

Mayor and council will discuss the topic at their annual retreat this weekend. In preparation for the retreat, the city manager contacted the police chief about the logistics and potential ramifications of adding the cameras.

Valdosta's Police Chief Brian Childress said adding these cameras is not a decision that should be taken lightly.

"There is gonna be some back log work for the police department, that I know for a fact. But again, I think there's been a lot of public backlash about those cameras. So, I don't know if that's gonna happen here in Valdosta or not," Chief Childress emphasized.

The city currently has several surveillance cameras around town, but does not have any red light cameras.
