ALBANY, GA (WALB) - One Albany city commissioner says leaders need to work harder to ensure businesses stay in Albany, and don't move to Lee County.
City Commissioner Jon Howard says even though crime is an issue everywhere, there is a perception that crime is lower in Lee County, and the education system is better.
Since he's been serving, Howard says he knows of about a dozen Albany businesses that have moved across the county line.
"When I was riding down 82 the last several days..I noticed an entourage of new building that are going up and they have a foundation in Albany and Dougherty County and so its certainly going to erode and hurt our future tax base," says Commissioner Jon Howard.
Howard says he remembers when Walmart moved to Ledo Rd, which used to be located in Albany Square.
