ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany middle school student was surprised to learn she is such a good writer.
Deerfield-Windsor seventh grader Autumn Hart is this year's winner of Daughters of the American Revolution Essay Contest.
Hart's winning paper dealt with "A Child's Journey through Ellis Island."
"Honestly this was sort of a surprise for me. I have never been much of a writer. I have always been more of a science person. So, this was sort of a surprise for me," she said.
This year's contest was coordinated through the Thronateeska Heritage Center which is currently hosting an exhibit on Ellis Island and artist Andrew Sabori from Covington.
