ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Heating companies are preparing for an influx in calls when cold weather strikes.
Experts say there are things you should do now to make sure your heater is running efficiently.
Check your filter to make sure there is proper air flow. Have your unit serviced if it's experiencing any problems. It also doesn't help to turn your unit off and on.
"When temperatures get below 30 degrees for an extended period of time, which is what we're going to be looking at, a heat pump is going to struggle to keep up and people are going to be concerned, thinking the unit never cuts off. It just runs and runs," said Jim Bacon with SafeAire. "But it's going to take that in order to make you comfortable."
If you have gas heat, make sure you have a working carbon monoxide detector in your home.
SafeAire said they will have staff on call for customers who have problems.
