TIFT CO., GA (WALB) - The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes went through Tift County Sunday.
The first one touched down two miles northwest of Omega and the other touched down in Brookfield.
The one near Omega was an EF1 with winds up to 95 miles per hour. The second one went through Brookfield and was also an EF1 with winds up to 100 miles per hour.
The damage in Brookfield was more substantial than the one in the Omega area, but both caused damage.
Brookfield Baptist Church had a lot of damage that happened during the church service Sunday morning. There was substantial damage to the church's roof.
The main damage occurred when the steeple fell to the ground. Several shingles were stripped from the roof, and two church storage sheds were destroyed.
There were several trees down with this tornado, more than with the first one, including pine trees and large Magnolia trees.
There were no fatalities or injuries.The National Weather Service out of Tallahassee sent two meteorologists to survey the areas.
