LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - Lowndes County investigators are trying to figure out why a Florida man led deputies on an early morning high speed chase down I-75.
Cook County Deputies clocked Romaine Saunders, of Hallandale, Fla. heading South on I-75 in a 2015 Kia Optima going over 100 miles per hour around 4:30 a.m. Monday.
They tried to pull him over but he kept going. Lowndes County deputies were finally able to stop Saunders near exit 13 by using stop sticks.
The car he was driving was a rental car, but it wasn't his. Now, investigators are trying to speak to the actual renter."We will, at some point, speak to them to find out," said Lowndes County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Stryde Jones. "This person was not a listed driver on the rental agreement. So, we'll wanna find out why he was operating the vehicle. And, it could be somethin' very innocent."
Jones said it was not clear Monday if the car was stolen. No one was hurt during the chase.
Saunders was facing multiple traffic charges Monday.
