Fire officials ask boaters to use caution

Albany firefighters are reminding boaters to use caution out on the waters after several recent rescues.

Yesterday divers pulled out a Leesburg man's truck that was completely submerged under water in Lake Chehaw, after it was parked in neutral.

Two days earlier, their rescue team was called to Cromartie Boat landing to save a man after his boat started to sink. Fire officials are asking boaters to use caution.

"I would recommend that everybody that is on a boat wear a life vest for their safety and to use caution when entering into the water with the boats,” said Capt. Ken Turner, Albany Fire Department. “Make sure when you put your boat in, you put your truck in parked and not neutral and rely on emergency parking break."

Fire officials say it's safer to have more than one person on a boat.
