TIFT CO., GA (WALB) - The minister at Brookfield Baptist Church on Highway 82 East says when the storm hit it sounded like a freight train .

He says he was giving the sermon, and it started raining so hard he couldn't hear himself talk.

It happened just before noon on Sunday, while the area was under a severe thunderstorm warning.

He says they took cover under the pews, and  he's just glad no one was injured during the storm.

“The next thing I knew the ceiling tile was falling out of the roof, and the doors were flying off the hinges, and the windows were shaking. Everyone said just get under the pews. About 15 mothers went to check on their kids, and they couldn't get the door opened from the wind pressure, and that started a panic,” says Minister Gary Cadwell.

He says everything was over in about 30 seconds.

A home down the road from the church was also damaged.
