THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Georgia State Patrol Troopers hope their message not to drink and drive is sinking in.
Troopers at the Thomasville post said the number of DUI cases in their area were down over the holidays.
They've made only 12 DUI arrests since Christmas Eve.
Statewide, crashes over the holiday travel period resulted in 14 deaths this year, down from 18 last year.
GSP Trooper Christopher Hosey said, “I believe partially it's because of the combined efforts of the media and the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. And simply because of those other agencies. We're seen more. There are a lot of us out and about.”
The New Year's holiday travel period runs until Sunday at midnight, but troopers remind drivers they have zero tolerance for drunk driving year round.
