ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Fire Department rescue team was called to the Cromartie Boat Landing late Thursday afternoon to save a man after his boat started to sink.
Torrey Harper was helping some friends who were having electrical problems on their boat, when Harper started having problems of his own.
It only took a few minutes for the fire department to rescue the stranded boater. It happened on one of the islands in the Kinchafoonee Creek.
“Not being real familiar with how the channels work at this particular location. He went the wrong way and crossed the stumpy area and possibly put a hole in his boat. He was fortunate enough to make it to one of the islands. He had a cell phone and placed a call to us to come pick him up,” said Captain Wesley Wells.
The Albany Fire Departments says the boat is partially submerged in the water and a recovery company will have to retrieve it.
Harper didn't need any medical attention. His friends were able to return to the boat landing safely.
