Several people in Tifton are plunging into cold water for a good cause.
The Tift Area YMCA held their 12th annual Polar Bear Plunge today. Eight people raised money for various local charities and slid down the slide into 55 degree water temperatures.
Lieutenant Wingate Whitley raised the most money and plunged in the pool wearing his Sheriff's uniform. He raised more than $2,000 for the Patticake House Children's Advocacy Center.
"If me going down in my uniform, making a sport of myself will help put some money in the pockets of a worth organization, then I'm all for it," said Lt. Wingate Whitley, Tift County Sheriff's Office.
"Whoever raised the most money, 100 percent goes back to their organization. Everybody else 50 percent goes back to their organization. 50 percent goes to the Tift Area YMCA," said Darian Peavy, Tift Area YMCA, CEO.
$9,000 was raised amongst the 8 people, including $4,000 from the Tift Area YMCA.
