THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Folks in Thomasville came together to celebrate 150 years since the end of the Civil War.

The Emancipation Proclamation celebration was sponsored by the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Thomas County.

Keynote speaker Reverend James Banks spoke about the importance of remembering this moment in history to create a brighter future.

State Court of Thomas County Judge Mark Mitchell said, “Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. So we always need to be mindful of our history and the bad things that have gone on as well as the good things.”

Students from across the county sang and performed as a part of the celebration.
