VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Many bars and restaurants in and around Valdosta were expecting to be busy Thursday night with Florida State fans coming out to cheer on their team in the Rose bowl.

Jamie Foddrell, the bar manager at The Wooden Nickel Pub in Valdosta, said New Year's Day is usually their slowest day of the year, but because of the game this year, and with the Alabama-Ohio State game right afterwards, they're expecting a busy night.

"We're actually a little surprised. But, I guess with Florida State playin' at 5," said Foddrell. "We've already had people startin' to book [parties] at 4, 4:30 [p.m.]; parties of 10, 15, 20. So, it's been really good so far. We're actually expectin' tonight to be pretty busy."

Foddrell said business usually starts to go right back up after dropping off for New Year's Day, but he was definitely looking forward to not experiencing that New Year's Day drop off this year.
