ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The flu is now widespread in 36 states, including Georgia. The Health Department says one adult has died in Dougherty County from the flu.
They recommend everyone six months of age and older get vaccinated, even though this year's flu strain has mutated in ways that make the vaccine less effective than experts initially hoped.
"If you have been vaccinated and you do come in contact with the flu virus the likelihood of your illness being very severe is decreased so there is still some protection. We want everyone to realize that that it is still a good idea to get your flu vaccination because some protection is better than none," said Reny Hutchins of the Health Department.
The CDC says the flu is responsible for the deaths of at least 15 children so far this year.
