ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The only African American Chief in the history of the Albany Fire Department passed away Sunday.
Henry Fields served as fire chief from 1991 to 2000.
Current Assistant Chief Rubin Jordan was hired by Chief Fields in 1992.
He said Fields was an honorable man.
"I can remember him coming out to my recruit class and telling us we had just entered a job where we would see things ordinary people wouldn't see or shouldn't see. He asked us then if we wasn't sure..turn in your equipment now," Rubin Jordan, Assistant Fire Chief.
The fire department honor guard will take part in Chief Fields's funeral set for Friday at 11 a.m. at Jordan Grove Baptist Church.
