Americus government seeks a leader

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The city of Americus is now interviewing potential interim replacements for the Chief Administrative officer.

The position became available when Laura Lee Bernstein resigned at the beginning of the month.

Mayor Barry Blount and the city council are hoping to move to a city-manager style of government, but must hire an interim CAO in the meantime.

The first of those interviews took place late Tuesday afternoon. "There may be some additional interviews we have here in the next few weeks, but I'm hopeful that we will have someone in that position in the next two weeks to three weeks," said Mayor Barry Blount.

The council passed a resolution that state lawmakers need to pass and the governor needs to sign. If passed, a new city manager could start July 1st.
