LEE CO., GA (WALB) - ?
A 26-year-old man accused of robbing businesses in Lee and Dougherty counties made his first appearance in court Tuesday.
Officials say Eric Newell is accused of attempting to rob the Kangaroo Express off South Mock Road in Albany Christmas Day, stealing and pawning lawn equipment in September of 2013, and is a prime suspect of a robbery at a Rite Aid in Albany in 2012.
The most recent case against Newell includes a robbery at CVS Pharmacy in Leesburg last Friday, to which he confessed.
"You understand armed robbery carries a penalty of life imprisonment. And consequently the bond can only be set by the superior court judge. You're either going to get killed, or hurt somebody," said Judge Jim Thurman.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 20th. The Grand Jury will hear the case April 28th. Newell is also facing charges in Dougherty County for attempting to rob the Kangaroo Express off of South Mock Road in Albany the day before.
