Albany Police are encouraging you to properly dispose your gift boxes to make you a tougher target for crooks.

Police say it's important you cut and shred big box items, so crooks won't know what presents you and your family got for Christmas. They say it's important to cut those boxes down so that they can fit inside your trash receptacles with the lid closed.

"If it takes a couple of cycles, meaning a week or so if you have to take one load now for the truck to come pick up and wait til the next one, so be it,” said Cpl. Brian Covington, Albany Police. “The main point is making sure that your home is safe."

Boxes can also be recycled at the three recycling drop off site locations on Meredyth Drive, behind the Civic Center and at the Thornton Community Center in Albany.
