MITCHELL CO., GA (WALB) -

27-year-old Jose Contreas-Portillo has been charged with driving under the influence after causing a serious crash at the intersection of GA 112 and 262 around noon today.

Troopers say the crash happened near the Grady, Mitchell County Line.

The Georgia State Patrol tells us Contreas-Portillo was driving north on 112, while another driver, 40-year-old Michelle Nesmith, was going south on 112.

Nesmith was attempting to make a left turn onto 262, and when she yielded to oncoming traffic, Contreas-Portillo crossed the center line of the road, and hit Nesmith head on.

Contreas-Portillo was transported to a hospital in Camilla with minor injuries.

Nesmith was taken to a hospital in Thomasville, along with her mom, 81-year-old Mavolyn Nesmith, who also had serious injuries.

Contreas-Portillo is also charged with failure to maintain a lane, no license, no insurance, and serious injury by a vehicle.
