Blood drive held in honor of former Valdosta High student

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The family of a former Valdosta High School football player helped the Red Cross collect blood donations in his memory Tuesday.

James Eunice drowned while duck hunting with a friend in Lake Park in January 2011.

His Wildcat uniform number was 23, which is why the family decided to hold the blood drive on December 23rd. This year marked the 4th year the family has held the blood drive.

James' parents said the blood drive represents both the spirit of the holidays and the spirit of their son as well. "In each of the last two years, we've been able to collect over 100 pints, which is very significant for this time of year. It's a great way to give back and it just means the world to us that people continue to share this story and help us in continuing that legacy," said James' father, John.

James' parents said they plan to hold the blood drive on December 23rd again next year.
