Albany police encourage social media safety during holidays

Albany police are asking you to refrain from posting your holiday plans on social media if you're going to be out of town.

They said posting pictures on social media such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram could be an invitation for a burglar to enter your home. They're also encouraging you to not post where you'll be for the holidays and how long you'll be gone.

" But what we're saying is that someone else is also looking at that web feed as well. What you're doing is you're making your home a target and you're letting those criminals know that no one is going to be there,” Corporal Brian Convington, Albany police.

Police said it's best to post your pictures once you're back in town. You can contact the police department if you'd like a home security check done while you're out of town.
