The owner of a Lee County hair salon is raising money to help out an Albany family whose baby was born with several rare birth defects.
Six-week-old Joseph Kennedy is finally home after being at an Atlanta hospital for nearly a month. Brandy Kennedy says her son is a miracle baby.
"He's a true blessing and everybody that he's come in contact with he's touched," said Brandy Kennedy, Joseph Mother.
He was born with Optiz Syndrome which causes several physical birth defects such as his cleft lip and the six toes on his left foot.
"He's also got reflux in the bladder when he pees some of his urine comes back up into his kidneys," said Kennedy.
And Dandy Walker Malformation which affects his brain.
"So he's missing a large portion of his brain," said Britny Leonard, Joseph's Aunt.
Baby Joseph is hooked up to a heart monitoring and feeding machine. Kennedy says her son will need at least 10 surgeries. Regina Raburn is the owner of Blonde Inc. Salon and Nail Spa in Leesburg, and saw that Joseph's family was asking for funds and prayers on Facebook.
"I went to sleep thinking about the little fellow, I woke up thinking about him," said Regina Raburn, Blonde INC. Salon and Nail Spa Owner. "I looked over at my husband and he said I know what you're going to do. Don't worry about it go ahead."
Her salon is giving out free haircuts for donations, and holding a bake sale on Sunday to raise funds for the family's medical and travel expenses.
"We can do the most smallest things and make such a big impact on somebody's life," said Raburn.
Kennedy says she's thankful for the support.
"For people just to come out and help support him and to support us, you know it's amazing to me," said Kennedy.
Joseph will undergo his first surgery on January 14th at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Atlanta.
The fundraiser is from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at Blonde INC. Salon and Nail Spa in Leesburg. You can help the family by clicking here.
