VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Some Valdosta teens learned about the importance of giving back to their community by singing Christmas carols.

The teens sang carols to residents at the Sands Horizon housing complex Friday evening.

The teens are all from Valdosta's housing authority complexes and are part of the GOLFER program. It's coordinated by Valdosta Police Officer Mark Burkhart and teaches the kids life lessons through the game of golf.

"I believe it's made a great impact on my life and it gives me an extra reason to strive and do good in the community and, also, enhance my athletic ability," said Jasmine Murphy, one of the teenagers in the program.

All of the kids were accepted into the program because of their good grades and having had no disciplinary issues at school.
