Colquitt Regional Medical Center showcases a major expansion.
Hospital officials cut the ribbon to their new emergency center today. Visitors toured the facility that is now equipped with a 24-bed emergency room, six operating rooms, a 10-bed intensive care unit, 20 private rooms in day surgery and advanced robotic technology. The $30 million project was funded over two years.
"We just recruited ten new doctors to our community from surgeons, neurologists, dermatologists so this really gives us a facility that they'll be able to practice medicine," said Jim Matney, Chief Executive Officer.
"With the expansion that we're seeing when rural hospitals all across America are actually closing says an awful lot about our community," said United States Senator Saxby Chambliss.
The hospital was able to raise $2.2 million through their capital campaign this year to help raise funds for the project. The new emergency center will open to patients on Monday.
