A 90-year-old Moultrie Woman uses her singing talent to help others get into the Christmas Spirit. Her annual performance is a holiday tradition in town.
Nelle Collier has spent most of her life making other people smile. She says it's important to use the gifts God gives you to help others.
People in Moultrie say the Christmas Season hasn't begun until you hear 90-year-old Nelle Collier sing "sweet Little Jesus Boy." It's a tradition at First Baptist Church in Moultrie where Collier has been singing for more than 50 years.
"I don't know, it just grabbed me the first time I ever heard it, and then I heard it a second time and I thought I've got to get that,” said Nelle Collier.
Collier's friend, co-worker and church member, Vera Clark says when she hears her sing, she knows Christmas is near.
"I feel like that Christmas is coming,” said Vera Clark, Collier's friend. “I feel like that Jesus is coming to church and it just gives me a glowing feeling to hear her sing."
"At church they always say now we can have Christmas,” said Collier.
Collier has been a volunteer at Colquitt Regional Medical Center for 30 years where she enjoys making patients feel at home.
"I look forward to coming out here, the friendships are just so valuable,” said Collier.
There's now a Facebook video of Collier singing "Sweet Little Jesus Boy" at her church that's getting a lot of attention with more than two thousand views. She says the support has been overwhelming
"I said Lord, this is for you, if you can use me and he's blessed it and that's all I can say,” said Collier.
Collier will celebrate her 91st Birthday on Saturday with her family.
