THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) - A Thomas County man is in jail after investigators said he raped a woman Tuesday night in Boston.

Investigators said Michael Hightower, Jr. raped a woman in her car, and then drove away with her.

While driving, Hightower hit an embankment and totaled the vehicle, forcing them to abandon the car and walk.

Thomas County Sheriff's Office Chief Investigator Lieutenant Tim Watkins said, “They were walking back towards Boston.  She told him that she had forgotten something in the car. And turned around to go back and get it.  Then she ran to the closest house and dialed for help.”

Hightower is charged with rape, aggravated assault, and aggravated sodomy.
