ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The city of Albany is one step closer to eliminating the Water Gas and Light Commission.
City commissioners took an initial vote Tuesday night to change the city charter to replace WG&L with the Albany Utility Board.
The change will allow that board to offer new services such as telecommunications and expand utility services outside of Albany.
"But we also know there is a possibility the services we have to buy will go up. That's why we increase revenue by increases the services we offer and offer the services to more people then we can have the same kind of thing," said Mayor Hubbard.
The commission will take a final vote in January.
