ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany city commissioners Tuesday approved the first step in an early retirement incentive program for city employees.
This purpose is to save the city money without firing employees.
The package will include 6 months pay.
"We're going to move forward with that plan. We don't know who will accept that incentive that will determine once we know who will accept that incentive how we structure the plan," Tom Berry, Interim City Manager.
City manager Tom Berry says there are about 140 employees that could qualify for early retirement.
He hopes to know by mid-January who may take advantage of the program.
