Valdosta firefighters bring holiday cheer to several South Georgia children

Several Valdosta children are having a happier holiday thanks to the Valdosta Fire Department.

12 kids whose homes were destroyed or mostly destroyed by fire this year got to go on a shopping spree with Valdosta firefighters Tuesday night.

The fire department had been collecting money for several weeks in preparation for the event. Each kid was given a couple hundred dollars to buy whatever they wanted at the Walmart on Norman Drive.

"The firefighters that have done it before wanna keep doin' it. The kids obviously love it because they get to go shopping and they like firefighters, and the parents are gratefull and excited. So, it's a win situation for everybody," said Valdosta Fire Department Sergeant Chris Staples.

The Valdosta Police Department will hold its annual shop with a cop event at the Walmart on Inner Perimeter Road on Monday, December 22nd.
