DOERUN, GA (WALB) - Cotton prices in the coming year may depend on international demand for the crop. Cotton is selling for 65-cents a pound right now.
Economists don't expect that to change unless China needs more cotton. They say supply from last year is keeping the price below average.
"So the more stocks you have that has an effect of really generating low prices and we are at a record level on stocks right now," said Cotton Economist Don Shurley.
Shurley predicts that low prices will lead south Georgia farmers to grow less cotton next year.
