USG Chancellor encourages Georgians to finish their college degrees

University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby is encouraging Georgians to go back to college and finish their degrees.

Huckaby spoke at the Valdosta North Rotary Tuesday about Georgia's "Go back. Move ahead." program.

The program is designed to make the college application process easier for those looking to go back to college and make completing degrees less of a hassle for those students.

"We need an improved, highly educated, trained workforce if Georgia's Gonna be competitive in the decades ahead," Chancellor Huckaby emphasized.

Huckaby pointed out that having more Georgians with college degrees is also important for the country as a whole. "National studies have shown that the United States is barely maintaining competition with other countries. In fact, at one time we were number one in the world. We're now number 15," said Chancellor Huckaby.

The University System of Georgia notes that, currently, only 42% of Georgians have earned some type of college degree.
