LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office will now be able to keep roads in the county even safer thanks to a grant.
The sheriff's office received a $20,000 grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. The sheriff's office is the coordinating agency for Georgia's Southern Region Traffic Enforcement Network.
The money will allow the 38 law enforcement agencies that make up the network to have access to more safety equipment and continue programs such as operation zero tolerance.
"It gives each agency a better ability to target and saturate the patrols during DUI enforcement," said Lowndes County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Mike Adams, explaining some of the benefits of the grant.
This was the third year the sheriff's office has applied for and received the grant.
