ATLANTA, GA (WALB) - The first of two teams representing South Georgia football took the field Friday afternoon.
The Irwin County Indians took on the Hawkinsville Red Devils at the Georgia Dome for the GHSA Division 1 A state title.
The two teams battled closely in the first half, locking in at 6-6.
In the second half though, momentum got away from the Indians.
A botched snap on a punt and a safety, lead to nine unanswered points from the Red Devils.
Hawkinsville would go on to win 15-6.
Irwin County head coach Buddy Nobles tried to keep things in perspective, despite the tough loss.
You know, they'll be glad 10 years from now," Nobles said. But right now, there's a bunch of kids in that locker room with their hearts hurt.
