VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Some U.S. troops will get holiday cards thanks to Red Cross volunteers in Valdosta.

Wednesday, volunteers sorted the cards and got them ready to mail. Children, organizations, and businesses from South Georgia and across the country sent the cards to the Red Cross in Valdosta.

Some will be sent to veterans at nursing homes around South Georgia, some will go to Moody Air Force Base, and others will go to troops overseas.

"It just really means a lot. Especially for the ones that are out there, and there are, that don't get anything," said Red Cross Director Terri Jenkins. "So, to get a card from a five year old child that says 'thank you for your service, God bless you,' it really means a lot."

The Red Cross received more than 2,000 cards.
