ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Andrew Dismuke, who runs Shoemaker Auto Sales in the 1700 block of North Slappey, is having to spend about $500 he shouldn't have to spend.
That's what it costs to replace all four wheel rims on one of his cars. Someone jacked up the SUV, and stole the tires and rims in the last few days.
Dismuke says he discovered the theft Monday. "It seems like at least once a week we have something broken in, or stolen, damaged. They steal a lot of CD players, a lot of wheels off cars."
Shoemaker has been in business for 30 years in two locations on North Slappey.
Dismuke says in the last four to five years thefts like these seem to have gotten worse.
He says that thefts from Albany car lots are an on-going problem that he doesn't see them increasing around the holidays.
He says that radios, CD players, tires and rims are the most frequent targets of thieves, and he's been dealing with the problem for years.
