LUMPKIN, GA (WALB) - Stewart County Sheriff Larry Jones says that a tanker driver apparently tried to make a left turn too fast early this morning, and his trailer rolled over into a ditch, near the intersection of GA Hwy. 1 / US Hwy. 27 and GA Hwy 39, about 5:30 Tuesday morning.
Jones said the driver was not seriously injured. He was hauling a load of chemicals to a Meade Paper plant in Cotton, Alabama. He said the placard on the truck was #1719, which refers to a liquid called
Hydroxy-methylbutene, a caustic alkali solution.
It is a flammable liquid and should not be allowed to seep into sewer systems.
He said only a small amount of the liquid leaked out of the tanker.
The Georgia State Patrol Cuthbert Post is handling the wreck investigation.
