AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

The Americus Mayor says there is currently no interim Chief Administrative Officer for the city after Lauralee Bernstein's resignation last night.

Lauralee Bernstein said her decision to resign is effective immediately. We incorrectly reported that Mayor Barry Blount will take over the role as C.A.O until a replacement is found, but Mayor Blount says there is currently no replacement. They will be working to find an interim C.A.O.

Bernstein said she made the decision after the city council and mayor came out of an executive session during a public hearing for the budget and administrative briefing meeting.

Bernstein said bickering and constant back and forth led to her decision and wanted to leave before the council made their vote publicly.“Some progress has been made but clearly there was much more work needed to be done and it was becoming apparent the council thought I was the person that could do it. I appreciate everything but it was in my best interest professionally to step down from the position,” said Lauralee Bernstein.
