Irwin County Indians prepares for title shot

OCILLA, GA (WALB) - Folks in Ocilla are preparing to head to Atlanta this week, hoping to see the Irwin County High School football team win a state championship. The Indians beat Commerce Friday to earn a spot in the single-A title game at the Georgia Dome.

It's their first state championship game since 1997. Principal Kerry Billingsley says students are excited for the big game.

"During lunch, we'll run a highlight of the season, a PowerPoint, and just letting them see the different scenes from the season, and then we'll have a sendoff Thursday before they leave to go up," said Billingsley.

The Indians will kick off against Hawkins Friday at 1 o'clock. Billingsley says the final decision on when students will be dismissed will be made at the school board meeting tonight.
