ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County Police want to make the holiday season safer for everyone, and are helping in that effort by giving away free gun locks.

The department is giving away 200 gun locks, first-come first-served.

The locks can be picked up from the Dougherty County Police headquarters at 2106 Habersham Rd. in Albany.

Officials said many guns are given as gifts during the holidays, and they want to make sure more people have safely kept guns.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation helped make the free locks possible.
