TIFTON, GA (WALB) - A Tift County High School ROTC instructor has been charged with sexual assault after a complaint.
Sheriff's deputies arrested Darrell Purvis Friday afternoon. Officials said he assaulted a 17-year-old female student of the high school.
The school's public information officer said the assault happened off campus.
According to a report, Purvis is an Air Force Sergeant and submitted his resignation to the school on November 21.
An attorney for Purvis spoke about the charges Friday.
"They have provide the family of the young lady no evidence to support these charges against Mr. Purvis. We are going to vigorously going to defend him in a court of law," said attorney Paul Hamilton.
The Sheriff's Office said the investigation began after someone filed a trespassing complaint regarding two cars parked in a field on October 19.
