AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Reuben John McCary of Macon was arrested by Sumter County Sheriff's deputies last week and is still in custody in connection to a check fraud scheme.
On November 15, 2014 the Sumter County Sheriff's Office checked out a vehicle on someone else's property. That led to the seizure of equipment and checks utilized in a multi-county check fraud scheme.
Investigators recovered multiple bank account numbers and credit card information, including names, social security numbers and personal information.
The checks were fraudulent payroll checks printed on local business accounts from Macon to Albany. Checks that were already made out on these accounts valued $40,000.
Sumter County Sheriff's Office Investigative Division is working with other jurisdictions to identify additional victims and suspects.
