City officials host downtown Christmas parade this weekend

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Christmas is just around the corner, and this weekend kicks off the Annual Celebration of Lights Christmas Parade.

City workers say this is their gift to the community. There will be lots of activities going on downtown Saturday evening, so city officials encourage folks to arrive early.

There will be activities starting at 5:00 p.m. There will be five bands performing, and of course the lighting of the Christmas tree.

There are about 80 floats signed up to be in this year's parade. It's a great way to kick off the holiday season.

“Its a wonderful gift and it kicks off the holiday season. Its such a wonderful thing and it brings people together,” says Mari Wright with marketing.

The parade will kick off at 6 p.m., and will be streamed live on www.walb.com, and WALB's mobile news app.

City officials say some streets including, Pine Avenue, will be blocked off so again its important to arrive early, or even make a day of it.

Our own Chris Zelman and Tara Herrschaft will be downtown hosting the parade.
