ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The city of Albany's annual Christmas tree that will sparkle across from the courthouse is now downtown.
Juanita Spraggins and her husband planted it as a small sapling in their yard 20 years ago.
City officials took a look at the tree on Robinhood Drive and unanimously said it's the perfect tree.
Mr. Spraggins passed away last December.
His wife and son thought this would be a way to remember and honor him this year.
"I'm glad it's going to a good cause," said son Mark Spraggins "And more people will be able to enjoy it. He loved Christmas and what Christmas was about."
This year the tree will be named after Alice Coachman who recently passed away.
Her daughter and their family will light up the tree before the parade this Saturday at 6 p.m.
